A Rapid Prompting Method community

At Shared Paths Learning, our vision is to empower every non-speaking individual with autism and other related conditions to learn, to express themselves and connect with the world. We believe that communication is a fundamental human right, and we are dedicated to breaking down barriers that prevent individuals from learning and sharing their thoughts and ideas.

I am Mayra Takenaga; my professional journey began after earning a bachelor's degree in special education in Mexico City, which led me to work with students with learning disabilities. Upon moving to Canada, I completed a Developmental Services Worker program in Toronto, gaining valuable experience assisting adults with disabilities in group home settings. I then transitioned into the field of audiology, earning a Master's Degree in Clinical Audiology from Western University and practicing as an audiologist for 15 years. A pivotal moment in early 2025 introduced me to the world of autism. This new passion prompted me to complete the Level 1 Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) training, and I am now incredibly excited to bring my varied experience to a new and growing community of communicators and educators.

The Rapid Prompting Method (RPM), created by Soma Mukhopadhyay, is an academic approach designed to empower non-speaking and minimally-speaking individuals with autism and other related conditions. Through a dynamic "teacher-student response loop," educators present lessons that tap into a student's open learning channels—auditory, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic. By consistently adapting the teaching style to the student's individual needs, RPM fosters a pathway for reasoning, understanding, and meaningful communication.
